The chorus, the truly amazing chorus describes how someone dear to one can have an impact on one’s life. The verses describe depressive urges and the state of agony someone with mental illness are in, such as the lines of “Tie a noose around your mind, loose enough to breathe fine and tie it to a tree tell ‘em you belong to me this ain’t a noose this is a leash and I have news for you you must obey me” which is talking about trying to control your mind and actually function properly without having urges to hurt or destroy yourself. I know that doesn’t sound very promising, but I’m getting there. Through extremely well thought out poetry, Holding Onto You describes the urgency and importance of holding onto someone dearly, possibly even to live. Holding Onto You is a really important song to me, as it was my first Twenty One Pilots song I’ve ever heard in my life.
